About Opportune Consulting
Opportune Consulting is a boutique climate and carbon advisory firm based in Aotearoa New Zealand. We specialise in helping organisations understand, measure, and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through robust auditing, insightful advisory, and clear communication.
Our clients range from government agencies and councils to NZX listed corporates and private companies. We’re known for combining technical expertise with practical, real-world advice — and for doing it with professionalism, integrity, and a genuine commitment to a better climate future.
Join a growing climate consultancy making a real impact
We're seeking a motivated consultant to help deliver both emissions auditing and sustainability advisory services, supporting our clients on their journey to measure, manage, and reduce their climate impact.
As we grow, we’re looking for someone who is self-driven, has a sharp intellect, and values doing meaningful work with integrity and excellence. You’ll work closely with our Director and small team, taking responsibility for end-to-end project delivery across a range of client engagements.
This role offers clear development opportunities for someone looking to deepen their expertise in climate strategy, carbon auditing, and sustainability advisory.
We’re open to flexible work, including full-time or part-time arrangements, depending on the fit.
This role is based in Dunedin serving a client portfolio nationwide.
What You’ll Do
Lead and support engagements across emissions audits (e.g. GHG verifications) and sustainability advisory projects
Apply your understanding of audit methodology to deliver high-quality assurance work
Interpret and apply frameworks including ISO 14064-1, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the NZ Climate Standards
Advise on the development of Emissions Reduction Plans, Emissions Reduction Target Setting and wider sustainability matters
Conduct data analysis, develop GHG inventories, and prepare client reports
Communicate clearly with clients — advising, presenting, and managing expectations
Manage your own workload and contribute to overall project management and job tracking
Collaborate with our team while also thriving when working independently
Apply your problem-solving and analytical skills to deliver insightful and practical client outcomes
What We’re Looking For
You might be early in your sustainability career, transitioning from another area or a seasoned sustainability professional — but to succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Relevant experience in audit or advisory work, typically gained over 3 or more years in a professional services environment
Familiarity with audit methodology and standards — a Big 4 or similar background is an advantage
Experience in greenhouse gas emissions work, and confident use of ISO 14064-1 and the GHG Protocol
Strong written and verbal client communication skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in Excel and general business software
The ability to manage your time and workload independently, with high attention to detail
A collaborative mindset — we work as a team and support each other in delivering top-quality work
