In Aotearoa New Zealand there are not-for-profit projects setup to regenerate native bush on land which has previously been used for pasture.
We support our clients to understand if purchasing carbon credits is right for them, and if it is, to find a project which aligns with their values.
These landowners have registered their projects to receive carbon credits, which are earned over the period of time the bush sequesters carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Approved under NZ carbon credit standardsWhy landowners sell credits
By the landowner selling carbon credits they are able to obtain finance to continue funding the costs of the project (fencing, keeping pests out) and are also compensated for the loss of revenue if they had used the land for pasture.
A note on other carbon credits
You will also hear other people talk about carbon credits in NZ which exist for non-native forestry projects, and international carbon credits available for non-forestry projects (for example, renewable energy projects overseas). Currently, our clients have focused on native bush regenerative projects within Aotearoa New Zealand.
We can help you understand the types of projects available and what will suit the outcome your organisation is seeking (for example, supporting a local project).
Waipuna Bush's 74-hectare property is located within the stunning Banks Peninsula and was covenanted with the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust in 2012. The covenant's goals are to maintain and protect the historic forest on the land and encourage natural forest regeneration.
